Mission Symposiums

Each semester the South Pacific Division’s three Universities host a Mission Symposium in partnership with Adventist Mission and their corresponding Union office. All theology students, and other interested community members/students, are welcomed for a leadership training weekend that allows us to share an exciting vision for every student attending our Universities, hoping they will be able to do four things when they finish these symposiums:

The symposiums are divided into four sections corresponding to the Universities terms over two years:

  1. Disciple Making and Movement Building. In this symposium you will learn what a disciple is, how to grow as a disciple, how to make disciples and how to be part of restoring the Adventist church to its roots of being a disciple making movement.
  2. How to Plant a Church. You will learn the different types of church plants, the basics of how to plant a church, along with the biblical and historical reasons to plant churches within the Adventist context.
  3. Crossing Cultures for Mission. This symposium will help equip you to work across different cultures and people groups ie secular, race, sexuality, gender and religion. Our aim is for you to be able to make disciples of every nation, kindred, tribe and people.
  4. Mission to the Cities/Towns/Villages. In 1910 Ellen White said that the “work in the cities is the essential work for this time.” When she wrote this statement, New York was smaller than Sydney is today. This symposium will challenge you to see whether you could be involved in this essential work in our cities and what would be involved.
